In the spring of 2004, a compass holder was found amongst the wreckage of HMS Buaccaneer, a Brigand class navy tug, accidentally sunk off Portland during target practice. Upon dis-assembly of the compass holder a hand-written note was found in one of the sealed compartments.
The note states:
(Boating stations) March 30th 1943
Don't be nosey - I was
Yes, you are right this is
the compass holder as dis-
covered by myself on the
above date.
(Hi there nosey)

Summer 2004 - declared to Receiver of Wreck.
The 'Bucc' was sunk on the 25th August 1946 during target practice.
